This review is from: Motherhood Maternity' Secret Fit Shaper Panty (Apparel)'
I bought these today from my local Motherhood Maternity store. I like to wear bike shorts under skirts and dresses all spring and summer long, since my unusually large thighs rub together whenever I walk, causing red bumps and irritation on sweaty summer days. I looked high and low for affordable maternity bike shorts and happened upon these! They are perfect for how I want to use them, and as an added bonus I can wear them under pants right now in the early pregnancy stage to shape and tame my fat from the last pregnancy. Also, gals, this will be a wonderful garment to wear post-pregnancy!! No one warned me that my belly would look like a deflated tire for a few weeks after delivery. I bought something similar to spanx at that time to hide it, but it was nylon and hot. This one feels cotton-y and will hopefully be breathable. I wish I had seen it online because I paid a lot more in the Canadian Motherhood Maternity store.

Celebrating Motherhood

Mothers' Unconditional Love - (Celebrating Motherhood)
You don't need to look far to see why mothers seem to be perpetually at logger heads with there daughters-in-law. Every where you look many grown men and women still seek guidance on a host of issues from there mothers. The same applies to sons-in-law who tend to be in a state of permanent war with their mothers-in-law believing that their wives rely too much on their mothers' counsel. Weather True or False, the fact remains that motherhood is forever from the moment when the doctor pronounces that you are pregnant.

From when a mother knows she is expecting a baby, the maternal instinct right away triggers a protective instinct that tries to ensure no harm befalls the baby. Even that weird occurrence, which sometimes is an overwhelming craving for certain foods or non-foods while pregnant, is the body's' way of saying that certain minerals are missing from the system and you need them to ensure the baby gets optimum growth in the womb. My wife and I being first time mother and father are leaving nothing to chance to ensure the best for the unborn baby. My wife will always flinch whenever anyone or thing move very close to her. She is not alone many mother invest a lot to their unborn babies, a true testimony of a mothers' love to her child that is independent to the child's physical appearance. As much as some parents lock up their children because of physical deformities and the stigma societies attach to these abnormalities. But most mothers love their babies unconditionally. This ensures the survival of infants to adulthood, thanks to God for these instincts. Just like the American poet (James Agee) puts it "A mother never realizes that her children are no longer children". Even when they are grown old she believes that they remain her little children.

Listen to this Irish saying "A man loves his sweetheart the most; his wife the best, but his mother the longest"

My friend told me five years ago it's his mothers' instincts that saved him from certain death when he got a bout of pneumonia. He had a piercing pain in his chest, which he would stoically endure even as it looked very serious. One reason he resisting going to hospital was he had emptied his pocket at the beginning of the school term. And he thought the pain would eventually go away. But his mother who is also a grand mother had not retired from parenting arena. She said this was not a laughing matter and that she was not going to the village until my friend saw a doctor. And with that she fished from her large purse Ksh 3,000. To my friends surprise the doctor told him he had pneumonia. Every mother has a sixth sense that's impossible to argue with.

A priest tickled his congregation when he talked of this mothers' unconditional love. He spoke of the obligation to congratulate the new mother, there is really no comeliness in the infant to talk about when she cannot honestly exclaim "What a beautiful boy" then simply says "What a baby."

Let me conclude with this gem "Child bearing myth number 1: Labor ends when the baby is born."

Motherhood Maternity Collection

Hello Motherhood! Bye Bye Style!
Once upon a time having a baby meant kissing goodbye to anything remotely stylish. As soon as that cute little bump began to show out came the floral tents, or, if you were a bit more daring, dungarees (dungarees!). And it really didn't get any better once the baby arrived - style wasn't really an option when it came to baby accessories either!

Thankfully, things have moved on a bit since then - mothers of today demand more. Having a baby is a wonderful, life changing experience, but it doesn't have to mean the end of everything pretty! Modern women expect more, but the whirlwind that a new baby leaves in its path can make it hard to remember that you're still you and it's easy to lose yourself in a pile of nappies and babygros...

Becoming a mother can be a real shock to the system. Not only are you suddenly at the beck and call of this tiny little person twenty-four hours a day, but giving up work, even temporarily, can make you lose sight of yourself and who you were before your baby arrived. It's easy to define yourself by your career, without even realising it and giving up that status, even temporarily can be disconcerting.

Added to that, the financial pressures of low maternity pay and paying for the upkeep of that beautiful new baby make spending time and money on yourself feel like something of a luxury and it's easy to find months have gone by with you wearing little else than jogging bottoms, jeans and a t-shirt is dressing up!

But it is important not to forget about yourself. Being a good mum is about more than just devoting every moment to your baby - you need to be happy and comfortable with yourself as well. It doesn't have to take a lot of effort (which can be hard to muster after three months of broken nights...), opt for low maintenance glam and funky baby accessories and, most importantly of all remember to take twenty minutes to yourself whenever you get a chance - relax, read a magazine and above all, do not do the dishes, hovering, dusting...

Thankfully now there are lots of ways you can hold onto your style, right through your pregnancy and beyond. Retailers have finally woken up to the desires of new parents out there and more and more main stream stores are launching maternity ranges, inspired by their main collections and the nursery stores are filling up with funky and bold baby accessories. Finally baby clothes come in more than just pastel shades and you can pick a pushchair in any colour under the sun, thanks to Bugaboo pushchairs leading the way with their stylish and minimalist buggies.
With a bit of savvy shopping you can become a yummy mummy on even a tight budget!

Are You in the Motherhood? Which Character Are You?
The new show "In the Motherhood" follows different types of moms in their daily lives. These extreme characters encounter extreme situations - and it is hilarious. The best part is that all these stories were adapted from real stories from real moms that were submitted to the show. So which type of mom are you?

Are you the "perfect mom" with the perfect kids and the perfect relationship with your perfect husband? Here is how you can tell if this is you or not. If you are not a "perfect mom" then you probably hate the ones in your life. If you do not have anyone like this in your life then it is probably you! Probably even worse than the actual perfect mom is the one who really wants to be, but her kids do not cooperate! She wanders around obliviously living life while her kids terrorize everyone and everything around them!

I am sure you know a lot of the workaholic types. Some women were career-driven before they had children and a family did not change that. Why is there a stigma to this? Why are women expected to completely change who they are when they have kids? The key to happiness is balance, and on "In the Motherhood" the working mom clearly has no balance. As a matter of fact, when she stays home with her kids her "manny" has to show her their preferences and routine!

Everyone has the single, childless friend who just does not get it. Because of course who can understand motherhood unless you have experienced it? Are you that woman? Do you wonder why your friends all have to buy maternity t shirts and cannot just wear regular clothes? Hopefully you are not sleeping with your friends' "manny" though!

Probably the majority of us are somewhere in between all of these. We may not work but we volunteer and run a household. We may not be perfect but we strive to make our children and husbands as happy as possible.

The television show is quite funny in it depicts all of these extreme characters, each of which women can relate to in some way. Now all they need is a pregnant character to point out all the joys of expecting! Show us the morning sickness, the husbands who do not understand, the high fashion traded in for maternity t shirts! This would be a hilarious character - and I nominate Jenny McCarthy to play her!

Motherhood Has Its Privileges!
Motherhood is a badge of honor of which I am most proud! I will never forget the tremendous joy I felt when I first found out I was going to be a mother. Although there was a bit of fear and uncertainty, the most prevalent emotion was of wonder and euphoria. All the love and tenderness that I felt for John, my husband of over thirty-five years, somehow grew to mammoth proportions and suffused my life.

Pregnancy had it ups and downs as my body changed to accommodate the life growing inside of me. For the first time, what I ate, the clothes I wore and even the position in which I slept were about someone else. While I had never though of myself as selfish, pregnancy started my boot camp training in selflessness.

When my first daughter was born, all discomfit and pain of childbirth were forgotten and replaced with immense pride. She was absolutely beautiful and I could hardly believe that John and I helped to create someone so perfect and full of unconditional love. We both spent hours inhaling her sweet baby scent, staring at her angelic features and holding her close. I slept in snatches because it my pleasure to get up to feed her, change her diapers and to simply play with her.

The infancy and toddler stages flew by with new wonders almost daily. It felt as if I had birthed the smartest child around as I watched her learn to sit up, crawl, feed herself, walk and potty train. I'll never forget how thrilled I was the first time she called me Ma-Ma. It was amazing to see this happy little person observe and process the things around her.

Early childhood and elementary school years brought on the experiences of watching this new soul learn to interact with others independent of my influence and protection. I watched her choose friends and develop relationships outside of the family nucleus. This was also the time to explore activities and interest that would shape this child into adulthood. Looking back at the school plays, dance recitals, musical concerts and church holiday programs, I realize how much of my social calendar was taken up with kiddie-events.

Our family grew at this time to include two more daughters. I experienced those same joys and wonderment with each new birth. The girls were absolutely adorable. However, the motherhood dynamics began to change as I repeated the earlier stages of development with them while discovering new things with my eldest daughter. I didn't want to neglect anyone's needs so it became a challenge to make sure to respect each child's individuality. I also discovered that each child's distinct personality was evident from birth. Just because I had mothered a six month old baby before did not mean that I was an expert on all six month old babies. I had had to allow each child to develop at her own pace.

Adolescence brought on even more challenges and excitement. Watching the process of my eldest daughter developing into a young woman caused me to reflect on the best things I wanted to impart into her life. It was also during this point that she began to question human sexuality when our family grew to include a son and another daughter. Again, I was in awe with the beautiful babies who now completed our family.

As a mother of five children, simultaneously I experienced the hectic teenaged years, adolescence, late elementary, early elementary and pre-school years. Whew! This is where the privileges of motherhood included a crash course in juggling many hats at once. It is also when I discovered that nurturing a son was a very different process than nurturing daughters. My son toughened me as I learned to suck it up when he experienced minor injuries from sports activities.

By the time all of the children attended college, I was able to experience the delight of seeing each person become equipped with the tools to make a positive impact on society and to continue the cycle of life with families of their own. I am so thankful that all are happy young people who are successful in their chosen professions. The privileges of motherhood include unconditional love, immense joy, selflessness, learning to adapt and knowing when to relax and let go. I agree with the Mildred B. Vermont's quote, "Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love."

A Helpful Guide To Formal Maternity Wear

While in years past maternity clothing was often dowdy and resembled oversized tents meant to cover the bump instead of flaunt it, the maternity wear of today is just as fashionable and fun as normal clothing. During nine months of pregnancy there will be a good chance that a special occasion will arise that requires formal wear. With a little determination, formal maternity wear can be found to make you feel like the bell of the ball with a bun in the oven!

One of the best places to find a great selection of formal maternity wear is on the internet. Hundreds of sites exist just for the mommy to be in mind, and many of those have sections specific for formal wear. Many of mommy's favorite clothing stores now even offer maternity lines, either in-store or exclusively online, so don't be afraid to check them out. Nordstrom's is a great department store offering a big selection of maternity wear online. Stylish formal maternity wear can also be found at A Pea in the Pod. This site is known for its great fashion and they have a great section devoted only to special occasions.

For the mom on a tight budget, many discount retailers have popped up with maternity lines. They also offer a great clearance section year-round so bargains can always be found. Motherhood Maternity is another great place offering fashionable maternity clothing at discount prices; this is many mothers' first stop in the hunt for maternity wear for the special night out. However, a few consignment stores like Baby and Me Consignments, Maternity Treasures and The Fairy Godmother at Large provide maternity clothing in larger sizes, and these companies generally encourage re-consigning the clothing after the delivery. Most consignment stores are economical and provide an alternative to handle specialty maternity clothing costs.

Some of the popular maternity stores in the US are Abracadabra - The Mom Shop, Annacris, Astarte Woman, Baby and Me Consignments, Baby Becoming and Jake and Me Clothing Company, among others. Stores like Baby and Me Consignments have a large selection of new and "pre-loved" maternity and nursing wear in great condition, and also have a wide variety of clothing, from professional clothing, formal wear, bathing suits, nursing nightgowns and dresses to everyday clothing. With this pregnancy, we were on a really tight budget and to make matters worse, I had started wearing dresses only, so many of my old maternity clothing wouldn't work for me. These are ideas that I used to expand my maternity clothing wardrobe without breaking the bank!

1. When you HAVE to purchase maternity clothing, look first at garage sales, thrift shops, re-sale shops and then eBay...in that order. Your best deals will be found at garage sales, while purchasing in re-sale shops or eBay will lead you to higher priced items.

2. Only buy new when you REALLY have to and then purchase items that are versatile and classic in design. For example, a denim, khaki or black skirt, pants or jumper will match nearly anything. Keep your eyes open for clearance racks. I got several cute maternity shirts at Wal-Mart, Target & K-Mart for under $5.00.

3. Borrow maternity clothing when possible. Ask recently pregnant ladies at your church, family members and friends. For example, I got several cute maternity dresses from an online friend...all I had to do was pay for shipping (less than $10). All I did was ask and the offers came rolling it!

4. Borrow some items from your husband's wardrobe. Go for more fitted items so they don't look too manly.

5. Skirts & pants that button can still be used by using these simple gadgets called the Belly Belt or the Bella Band. It costs about $25 but it's a great investment when you consider that you can wear your regular clothing instead of purchasing expensive maternity clothing. Even cheaper is to sew buttonholes on to both ends of a piece of elastic (whatever size you want/need). One end of the elastic fits over the existing button on the pants. Sew another button on the opposite side of the article of clothing and attaching the other end of the elastic to that button. This is a really inexpensive "fix"

6. For those of you that sew, you can also purchase pre-made "maternity panels" to sew into your existing skirts & pants.

7. If you wear dresses/skirts only, you can turn maternity jeans into skirts. You can find instructions at The Family Homestead, http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/denimskirts.htm.

8. If you own jumpers, you will most likely be able to wear them throughout most of your pregnancy.

9. You can wear your regular button up shirts under jumpers by leaving the last few buttons at the bottom unbuttoned. Since they're under a jumper, no one will know! If you want to wear them with skirts or pants, just wear them unbuttoned over a T-shirt.

10. If you have maternity clothing that's out of season, you can alter the items. Long sleeves can be shortened and pants and be altered into shorts.

11. Larger women's sizes can be purchased much cheaper than Maternity clothing. This is a great source for T-shirts, blouses and elastic wasted pants. I found most of these on the clearance rack at Wal-Mart or other discount stores.

12. If you sew, you can sew your own maternity clothing for pretty reasonable prices. Choose 1-2 patterns and continue to reuse them. Most maternity patterns contain at least a combination of items. For example the one I bought had patterns for a jumper, shirt, skirt and shorts/pants all in one envelope. You can nearly always find inexpensive fabric at Wal-Mart starting at about $2.00 per yard or you use fabric from your stash.

13. If you live near an outlet mall, check out their maternity clothing. You can find some really inexpensive items that are factory seconds and on the clearance rack. We use to have a Motherhood Outlet Store at the one close by me and with my last pregnancy, I was able to get some cute things for between $5-$10. I was able to get shirts, jeans, skirts & dresses for these prices.

14. If the pants or skirt is tight enough in the hips, you can wear skirts or pants by leaving them unzipped. A long shirt will cover it.

15. Elastic waist pants & skirts can be worn "under the belly" with a long shirt to cover it. Just make sure they're snug enough to stay up!

As you can see from these ideas, you can establish you maternity wardrobe without breaking the bank!

How To Find The Best Deals And Best Maternity Clothes Online

Being pregnant is the best of times and the worst of times. Maternity is so demanding that everything from preparing the baby's room to finding the right maternity clothes is absolutely important. In fact, your belly and dressing it when it gets bigger, is one of the recurring things you'll be thinking about for 9 months.

So why not start shopping maternity clothes early? You really should begin browsing for maternity clothes the moment you confirm that you are pregnant. It is never too soon. Don't buy just yet, simple browse what's available so that you'll be informed and ready when the time comes. Many women put off buying maternity gear because they hope they won't put on too much weight and won't need the addition to their wardrobes. But you'll be much more comfortable if you do invest in a good selection of maternity clothing.

Simply start with a web search using keyword phrases such as "women's clothing maternity" or "Maternity clothing store". If you are especially interested in budget options search for something like "discount maternity clothing" or "clearance maternity clothing". Whether you need petite maternity clothing or plus size maternity clothing, a quick web search will bring up lots of useful links to maternity clothing stores. Be informed of all online maternity stores, sign up to receive newsletters and information about offers and the like, or even, a copy of the store's maternity clothing catalogue. Bookmark links to maternity stores in your browser's Favorites folder so that when you start to bulge you'll have all the information you need to place your order online.

Be careful not to buy too soon, otherwise you may find that as you continue to grow the maternity clothes you bought earlier on in the pregnancy won't fit you by the time the end comes. If you are browsing for clothes early on in your pregnancy, also take note of the season. Are you due to give birth in summer or winter or in between? If your last couple of months will be summer months, then fabric and style are important things to consider. In hot summer months you'll really need to wear cool, light and comfortable fabrics.

Thanks to pregnant movie stars, maternity couture now offers designer maternity clothing labels, which add the option of being completely fashionable while your body undergoes the radical experience of preparing to be a mum.

Even though the household budget and your comfort needs will play a major role in the clothes you'll end up wearing, don't forget that wearing flattering clothes will make you feel better when your body starts to change. If you'll be working until the last minute, you'll need to keep up appearances with a new set of career maternity clothes and present a professional self despite the growing bulge in your middle. Pregnancy comes with massive physical and emotional changes, so the better you look and the better quality your maternity clothes are, the more positive you'll remain as you go about your non-maternity-related duties.
